G418 Disulfate (Geneticin Disulfate) (CAS: 108321-42-2) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic similar in structure to gentamicin used for selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Optimal concentrations for selection and maintenance vary by cell lines. Used to select neoR-positive cell lines and plasmids. Bacteria and algae require 5 μg/mL or less while animal cells may require 300-500 μg/mL. G418 Disulfate is also used to membrane-permeant allosteric effector of hemoglobin therapeutic in cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
G418 Disulfate, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that was first discovered in the late 1960s. G418 Disulfate is produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus and has been widely used in scientific research as a selection agent for gene expression and gene manipulation. G418 Disulfate is a potent inhibitor of protein synthesis and is used to select for cells that have been genetically modified or engineered. G418 Disulfate works by blocking the initiation of protein synthesis in the bacterial ribosome. This makes it an effective tool for studying gene expression, gene manipulation, and other genetic studies.
